Martin Picandet was born in Paris, France, on September 22, 1976. In the art world, he became known as Martin Solveig. Music has been a part of Martin’s life since an early age. He studied classical music and sang in a prestigious Parisian choir as a soprano soloist. After leaving aside his classical training in 1992, he decided to pursue a professional career in electronic music. Claude Monnet mentored him at a Paris nightclub called Le Palace.

He then began performing at another nightclub, Les Bains Douches, alongside many important electronic music personalities, including Bob Sinclar. As a DJ, he also worked as a musical arranger and producer at the mythical Queen club.

After working for various nightclubs, he decides to strike out on his own. Mixture Stereophonic is the label he created as a result. Among the singles he released were Heart of Africa and Come With Me, which combined elements of classical music with dance music and electronic beats.

In a few months, he caught the attention of Bob Sinclar, who invited him to join a project that combined electronic music with African rhythms. Bob Sinclar thought he would be perfect for this project. After that, he released the single Edony, which was very well received and became known throughout the world.

Martin Solveig’s artistic career

In 2002, Martin Solveig would release his titled album Sur La Terre, which contained his previous singles Heart of Africa and Edony. Another important song on this album was Linda, a tribute to Fela Kuti and Serge Gainsbourg, two musicians Martin admired. In 2004, Sur La Terre was released under the Universal Music label in the United States.

In 2003, the song Madan , a collaboration between Martin and Salif Keïta, became very popular. The success of Madan in Europe paved the way for Martin Solveig’s fame on that continent. Later, he released Rocking Music, which featured elements of punk rock and Jay Sebag’s voice. A resounding success followed.

In 2006, Solveig produced Bob Sinclar’s Western Dream album.  Martin emphasized the For You theme in particular. The fourth album he released in 2008, C’es la vie, was a commercial success, with songs such as C’est la vie and I Want You standing out.

To recognize Martin Solveig’s contribution to the national cultural heritage, the Minister of Culture, Christine Albanel, named him a Knight of Arts and Letters in 2008.

A year later, he released the single Hello with Canadian band Dragonette, which achieved tremendous success worldwide and was certified double Platinum in Canada, and platinum internationally. Billboard magazine’s “Hot Dance Club Songs” chart ranked the single at number one.

Successes in the years to come

He released his fifth studio production, Smash , in 2011, which included his previous successes Hello and Ready 2 Go. Dragonette collaborated with renowned artists such as Dev and Kele Okereke on this album. As a result of the DJ’s success, Madonna’s manager asked him to prepare some demos for the next Madonna album.

Solveig’s proposal was accepted by Madonna without thinking and he was hired to record Madonna’s MDNA album in London. Several songs on the album were produced by her, including Give Me All Your Luvin’ and Turn Up the Radio.

With The Cataracs and Kyle Harvey’s voice, he released Hey Now in 2013. It reached the top of the charts in several countries in Europe and was quite popular.

After taking a break, he returns with the single Intoxicated, together with GTA. Future house elements were present in this track, and it became a favorite track in nightclubs in Europe among young people. A collaboration between Tkay Maidza and Places, featuring the voice of Ina Wroldsen, was released in 2016. With Alma’s collaboration, All Stars goes on sale later.

His song My Love in 2018 gave his work a new voice. A few years later, Martin Solveig broke into radio, hosting a French show called C’est la vie in his native country.
