The lost years of childhood
Stratford, England, was the birthplace of William Shakespeare on April 23, 1564. John Shakespeare, a craftsman, and Mary Arden, the daughter of a wealthy farmer, had eight children. As a child, he lived in his hometown with two older sisters. It is assumed that William attended a Stratford public school rather than being home-schooled during his childhood.
